Admissions Process
We welcome children in kindergarten through seventh grade to apply to Synergy. Our admissions process begins with a school visit for parents. Please call the school to reserve a space for a tour. The next step is to submit an application and arrange for a visiting date for your child. You will be advised of application deadlines and notification dates during your visit.
Racial Diversity At Synergy
At Synergy there is a commitment to developing global awareness and to learning to appreciate and honor differences inside and outside the school community. We affirm the necessity of engaging in on-going work to create and sustain a socially just, equitable environment which actively works against racism and all forms of bias. During the late spring and summer of 2000, a racially diverse group of Synergy parents, teachers and board members, working closely with a consultant, developed "A Strategic Plan to Increase Racial Diversity and Enhance Community." This plan guides and supports the entire Synergy community in achieving our goals in many ways including: teacher selection and training, on-going curriculum development, and active recruitment and support of a diverse student population. Synergy has 2 active student chapters of POCIS (People of Color in Independent Schools). Our current student body's racial diversity is:
13% African American, 1% African, 9% Asian American, 12% Latino/a, 7% Multi Racial, 58% Euro American
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the school hours?
The Synergy School days begins at 8:30 AM and ends at 3:00 PM. On Wednesday, dismissal is at 2:10 PM. Our doors open at 8:00 AM and children may come that early at no extra charge. Early Morning childcare is available from 7:15 to 8:00 AM. Our After School program runs until 6:00 PM each day. There is childcare on most school holidays.
How do we select students?
We are an inclusive community and accept a wide range of children. The criteria we look at include: academic and social readiness for each grade level, philosophical match between the school and parent(s), and willingness on the part of families to support and participate in the school.
We actively recruit a diverse population in terms of ethnicity, income, gender balance and family structure, including gay and lesbian parents, single parents, adoptive and foster parents.
Do we accept children with learning differences?
We do accept children with learning differences. In evaluating the possibility of admission, we look at the specific needs of the child and our ability to meet those needs, the numbers of children with learning differences already in the class, and other support services the child is receiving outside of school. Synergy does have a learning specialist on site and our teachers are experienced at working with all types of learners. Synergy is a pilot school with the Learning Institute at California Pacific Medical Center. Our teachers are being trained and mentored in Mel Levine's philosophy and its applications through Schools Attuned, Programs for Educators from All Kinds of Minds.
