Our School

“The way the community came together to fund and build our existing building – transforming it from a mortuary to a school – was nothing short of remarkable. In true Synergy fashion, it far exceeded all expectations.”

School Environment

Synergy School is located in the heart of the Mission District, one of San Francisco’s most vital neighborhoods. After a successful capital campaign, we renovated a mortuary in 1999 into the school building we have today.

Features of the facility include:

  • A large common room that we use for performances, school-wide meetings, music class, after-school, and many other gatherings.
  • A library that holds some 7000 books with a quiet reading space for students.
  • An Art Room full of natural light that includes a kiln, roof-top area, and many other art-related facilities.
  • The “hard-yard” with a basketball court and other athletic facilities.
  • The “soft-yard” that has a climbing-structure, sandbox, and plant-lined play area.

Synergy also has a Green Team whose mission is to help the Synergy community reduce energy consumption and waste through education, managing our recycling and composting program, and implementing new strategies to increase our resource efficiency.
